The Brief

As part of Watercare’s drought response, a new water treatment plant was to be commissioned in Papakura to boost Auckland’s water supply by six million litres a day. Filtec were engaged to supply equipment as part of the process solution.

The Issues

Filtec needed to supply two Large Parkson Lamella Clarifiers, each in excess of 30 tonne. Scope of supply included full Mechanical design including seismic and wind loadings. On top of that, the overall project timeline was tight.

The Solution

Tīra Water has full in-house mechanical design capability, so Filtec engaged us to mechanically design, manufacture and deliver the Lamella Clarifiers. Our design team worked closely with Filtec and completed full design and fabrication drawings prior to manufacture in our Hamilton workshops. NDA’s significant workshop capacity and labour resources ensured the project was completed to specification, on time and on budget.

The Brief

NDA Services were engaged directly by technology supplier/designer, Tetra Pak New Zealand to complete the fabrication, mechanical Installation and pipework services for Fonterra’s Whareroa DAF wastewater treatment project.

The Issues

The project included installation of third party OEM equipment, fabrication of support frames, pipe spooling, testing and commissioning safely and efficiently in a tight time frame. The plant is located outside and exposed to the elements, which posed a further challenge.

The Solution

The NDA team worked closely with the client, their suppliers, and subcontractors to deliver this project on time, on budget, within specification and with no significant health and safety incidents. With a local workshop in Hawera, the NDA team were easily able to pre-fabricate much of the equipment and spooling off-site, reducing the amount of site work and associated project risk.

The Brief

To provide a reliable source of water intake for the new Whareroa water treatment plant in Taranaki, which needed to provide up to 1200 m3/hr to a major dairy factory site.

The Issues

The system needed to be a cost effective, reliable and robust system to extract water, in line with the consent conditions and with minimal environmental impact.

The Solution

We began by driving a 14m deep vertical shaft using segmental concrete rings with stainless steel splice plates. We then bored a horizontal shaft to a stainless steel intake structure within the river bed.

Two suction pumps, each weighing two tonnes, were then installed and connected to booster pumps in the nearby lift station. Tīra Site Services provided all mechanical services and commissioning support to completion. We minimised the environmental impact by driving the shaft without mass excavations, then installing stainless steel suction riser pipes and connections to the booster pump station.

The Brief

To help restore the cultural and ecological health of Lyttelton Harbour, as part of the Council’s wider Waka-Ora plan, working with Te Hapu o Ngati Wheke, Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu, Lyttelton Port Company and harbour communities.

The Issues

Wastewater discharge into Lyttelton Harbour from Diamond Harbour, Governor’s Bay and Lyttelton needed to be addressed – and minimised.

The Solution

We designed, built and installed a wet well and buffer tank, which formed part of a series of pump stations transporting all wastewater from the Bay communities under the harbour to Lyttelton, and then on to the main Christchurch wastewater treatment plant in Bromley.
